RipIt4Me Version 1.6.7.0

A super easy way to backup your protected DVDs!

This program is a freeware utility that helps you backup your copy protected DVDs.

Recently released DVDs are now very often equipped with stronger copy protections - such as ARccOS™ and RipGuard DVD - that programs like DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter have problems handling.

With the help of RipIt4Me, ripping these DVDs will be a very easy task. The program is fully automated and the wizard will guide you through all the necessary steps involved. If you prefer, there is also a true "1-Click" mode that will perform all the involved steps automatically for you.

The current version is 1.6.7.0 and you can download the program from the RipIt4Me Download Page.

How the program works

RipIt4Me uses DVD Decrypter as a ripping engine and FixVTS to clean the ripped files.

It shouldn't take you much more time for you to use this method than if you had used DVD Decrypter on its own.

In short:

  1. Start RipIt4Me.
  2. Insert your original DVD that you wish to backup in your DVD reader/burner.
  3. The DVD will then be ripped to your hard disk.
  4. After the rip, RipIt4Me will clean up the DVD and, if necessary, remove the bad cells from the VOB files, remove any fake titlesets and fix the pointers by running FixVTS.
  5. Once this is done, you may choose to have RipIt4Me make your DVD start at the first valid menu.
  6. Finally, RipIt4Me will open the ripped files in DVD Shrink for you.

Note 1: Don't have any on-the-fly decrypting tools, such as DVD43, DVD Region+CSS Free or AnyDVD running in the background while you use RipIt4Me and while you rip the DVD with DVD Decrypter.

Note 2: If you have auto play activated or that the inserted DVD automatically starts another application - turn off that feature before you run RipIt4Me. It will only create problems for you. You can read in this guide - Turn Off the CD-ROM Auto run - how you do this.

Note 3: RipIt4Me will change some of your default settings in DVD Decrypter to assure that they are the best ones when ripping protected DVDs. The changed settings should not cause any problems for you when you rip other DVDs. The original settings are restored immediately after the rip. See FAQ 27.

Note 4: Your screen setting should be set to 1024 x 768 and above for best performance.

Note 5: Got a problem? Read the FAQs first and then try the Forum.

1. Installation

These programs needs to be installed on your computer:

All programs that need to be installed are freeware.

  • DVD Decrypter version 3.5.4.0

If you don't have the final version 3.5.4.0 of DVD Decrypter installed - download and install it first. You can download it here.

  • DVD Shrink version 3.2

Optional installation. Used to verify the final result of the ripping and cleaning phases. You can download DVD Shrink here.

  • FixVTS version 1.6.0.3

FixVTS is used in the cleaning phase. With the help of this program, you can clean the mess created by the ARccOS or RipGuard protection. If you don't do this cleaning, you could end up with an error when you try to open the files in DVD Shrink.

If you don't have this program installed, you can download it from the FixVTS homepage. The latest version is 1.6.0.3.

The first time RipIt4Me runs, it will ask you to locate FixVTS.exe. RipIt4Me will remember that location from then on. (It is suggested that you install it into C:\Program Files\RipIt4Me which is the default folder)

If your version of FixVTS is not current, RipIt4Me will notify you.

When you press the "Yes" button, RipIt4Me will open FixVTS's home page so you can download the latest version. It will also open up the folder where you have saved your current version of FixVTS.

All you need to do now, is unzip the downloaded FixVTS version and save FixVTS.exe into the folder (just overwrite the existing version)

  • RipIt4Me

    How to install RipIt4Me:

    1. Create an empty folder anywhere on your hard disk. I strongly suggest "C:\Program Files\ripit4me".

    2. Save the downloaded RipIt4Me.exe file in the folder you created in step 1.

If you don't have an extracting/unzip program for .zip files, you can use this freeware program:

    3. When RipIt4Me has an update available, it will notify you. Download the update, unzip it and drag the EXE into your RipIt4Me folder (which will be opened for you), overwriting the existing RipIt4Me.exe file. See also section 3.1.1 of this guide.

Note: The easiest way to properly install and configure the up-to-date versions of RipIt4Me and FixVTS is to run the RipIt4Me installer. Click here to download.

2. Running RipIt4Me

Note: It is best to run RipIt4Me as a "Computer Administrator". Running from a "Limited" account might mean that Microsoft's SPTI Interface is unavailable to you.

There are two modes in the program that you can use - Wizard Mode and 1-Click Mode.

Wizard Mode gives you a bit more info along the way and lets you bypass some of the steps if you've already performed them (for example, the rip).

  • 2.1     Wizard Mode

The Wizard will guide you through the different steps that are needed so that you can backup your DVD.

  • 2.2     1-Click Mode

A true 1-click ripping procedure. Will do the same task as the wizard, but you will only need to select the place where you want your backed up files to be saved. Then you can let the program automatically process the various steps until it opens up in DVD Shrink for you.

2.1 Wizard Mode

  1. Start RipIt4Me.

You will then see the main screen of the program:

  2. Insert the original DVD in your DVD reader/burner.

Keep the DVD inserted during the whole run with this program.

  3. Press the button to start the process.

  4. If you see a message warning you that that you are using an old version of FixVTS, you need to update it. You can read more about this in section 1 installation under FixVTS.

  • Step 1 - Pick Drive, Target Folder and Ripping Mode

RipIt4Me will give you information about the DVD's size, the main title, whether it is episodic or not and other information which can help you make a decision about your ripping mode.

    1. Change your ripping mode (if desired).

You have four ways of ripping the DVD. Your default mode, as specified in the Preferences will already be selected. You can select a different mode for this rip via the dropdown box.

      • Full DVD

This will rip the whole DVD in file mode. You will have a video folder with IFO, BUP and VOB files on your hard disk.

      •
      • Movie only

This will only rip the main movie for you. The rip will be similar in structure to the output of a DVD Shrink re-authored DVD and, if it fits on a DVD-5, will be able to be burned without further user interaction.

You should not use this option on episodic discs, as only the largest titleset on the disc will be ripped, and you will therefore not rip the other episodes.

In this mode, you also have the option to set the default audio/subtitle streams as shown below.

Select the audio and subtitle streams you wish to play when the DVD starts. To actually turn the desired subtitle stream on, you must tick the "enabled" box. In the diagram, English 2 channel Dolby (AC3) audio and Dutch subtitles will be played.

If you are going to use DVD Shrink (or some other shrinking program), you can ignore this setting and set the streams in that program. However, if you intend to burn immediately, you may wish to set the audio and subtitle stream to be played. This can be especially useful if you need to set a subtitle stream that appears when foreign languages are spoken on the movie.

        • Note: Selecting a default stream does not strip the unselected streams from the VOBs.

      • Movie and Menus only

This will rip the VTS containing the main movie (again, be careful on episodic DVDs) and all the menus, while blanking all the other VTSs. This is especially useful if you want to retain the menus for accessing chapters/subtitles etc, but don't want to keep extras/previews etc.

        • Note: In both Movie Only and Movie+Menus modes, if your DVD has both a widescreen and a fullscreen version, RipIt4Me will give you the option as to which version you wish to rip as shown below. In Movie only mode, you may also select the audio and subtitle streams you wish to be played by default (see above).

      • ISO Mode

This will rip the whole DVD to an ISO file. This is useful if you want to do a 1:1 copy of the original DVD, particularly DVDs that are not ARccOS or Ripguard protected. All you need to do is rip to an ISO file and then burn that ISO file to a blank disc.

RipIt4Me will tell you in the lower portion of the above window if your DVD is a single- or dual-layer disc.

It is strongly suggested to use ImgBurn to burn your DVDs. Simply double click the MDS file created with the rip to burn the ISO with ImgBurn.

For ARccOS or RipGuard DVD protected DVDs, you should not try to open the ISO in DVD Shrink for processing - it will give you odd results as no file cleaning has been done. If you want to use DVD Shrink or another processing program before burning, use one of the other ripping options.

    2. Select the DVD drive to rip from.

Change the suggested drive, if necessary.

    3. Select the target directory for your rip.

If you have enabled the preference to "Create target directory from DVD label", this field will already be filled in. You may simply click "Next" to accept the suggestion.

Alternatively, you may type in a different path in the "Target" edit box or browse to a directory where you want to save the ripped files.

If you type in a new path in the edit box for a directory that is not yet created on the hard disk, RipIt4Me will create that folder for you automatically.

      • Note: If you get a "Couldn't create target rip directory" message, please refer to this FAQ.

When you have selected the directory press the 'OK' button.

    4. Now press the button to go to the next step.

      • Note: If you select a directory that is not empty, RipIt4Me will alert you with a pop-up window asking if you want to overwrite the existing files in the directory.

  • Step 2 - Create PSL file

This file is needed to tell DVD Decrypter how it should rip your DVD.

    1. Press the button to start the creation of the PSL2 file.

  • Step 3 - Rip with PSL file

    1. Press the button to start the ripping.

DVD Decrypter will now be launched automatically by the wizard.

If everything worked properly, DVD Decrypter will report that it has imported the RipIt4Me.psl file.

    2. Press the 'OK' button.

    3. Press this icon to start the ripping.

DVD Decrypter will now rip the files to your hard disk.

  • Step 3b - Cleanup IFOs

See section 3.2 of this guide for a discussion on each of the options.

    1. Press the 'Do it!' button.

      • Note: If you see this window, you might have a dirty, damaged or scratched DVD (or even a bad pressing).

You should select the option "Yes" and then try to clean the disc and then perform a new run with RipIt4Me.

After you have cleaned the disc, re-insert it and then press the "OK" button. RipIt4Me will try to rip the remaining files again. If it succeeds in doing so, it will continue with the remaining steps. If not, you will end up with this error message:

If RipIt4Me has detected a damaged disk and you still decide to perform the cleanup by selecting "No" above, it is highly advisable to burn the DVD to a RW disc first to see if you can find any playback problems. The most likely problem in such a case would be a missing part of the video.
  •

  • Step 4 - Cleanup VOBs with FixVTS

Click Process with FixVTS. FixVTS will process all titlesets to correct the structure of the DVD so it will open in DVD Shrink. If you have unchecked "Always run FixVTS on full DVD" in the preferences, FixVTS will only run those titles that need to be cleaned, making the process considerably faster.

You can always do a test to see if the DVD will open up in DVD Shrink first. If it does, there should be no need to run FixVTS.

For a discussion on what the two options do, see section 3.4 of this guide.

    Press the button.

    • Note: The first time you use RipIt4Me, it may ask you for the location of your installed FixVTS program.

Browse to the location and double click on the FixVTS.exe file.

  • Step 5 - Jump To Menu

This function will by-pass all the junk that leads up to the first valid menu (that is, the first menu that has buttons), so that when you insert your DVD, it will jump straight to that menu. Most of the time, you will be in the main menu, but sometimes, you may encounter a language section menu.

Simply click . The following screen will appear:

Clicking "Yes" will insert various commands in the IFO files to replicate precisely the DVD's structure at the first menu that has workable buttons. The main RipIt4Me window will tell you when this is complete (should take only a second or so).

You can test the output in a software player. If you don't like it, the process is completely reversible. Simply copy the IFO files from the "PreSkipToMenuBackup" folder back into the target rip folder.

    • Important note: In order for this function to work properly, it is very important to set your virtual player up before using this function. See section 3.1.8 of this guide.

    • This function is not available in movie only mode (since there are no menus), nor is it available in ISO mode (since an ISO is read only and no processing takes place after the rip).

    • On rare occasions, this function will not work, due to the structure of the DVD (if the first menu is actually in a title and is not the entry point of the title).

  • Step 6 - Open with DVD Shrink

This is the final step of the wizard and can be used simply to test that all is well or to start the shriking process.

    Press the button.

If you have not yet run FixVTS and the DVD has protected cells, this message will appear, warning you to run FixVTS first.

After FixVTS has completed its work, the files will be opened in DVD Shrink.

  • Press the button.

If you have enabled the setting "Save logs after rip" in the RipIt4Me Preferences window, the DVD Decrypter.log, the RipIt4Me.log and the temporary files will now be moved out of the VIDEO_TS folder to a conveniently named folder in your RipIt4Me application data folder.

You can read more about this function and how to change it in section 3.1.6 of this guide.

2.2   1-Click Mode

  1. Start RipIt4Me.

You will then see the main screen of the program:

  2. Insert the original DVD in your DVD reader/burner.

Keep the DVD inserted during the whole process.

  3. Press the button to start the process.

  4. If you see a message warning you that that you are using an old version of FixVTS, you need to update it. You can read more about this in section 1 installation under FixVTS.

  • Step 1 - Pick Drive, Target Folder, Ripping Mode (and Jump to Menu)

RipIt4Me will give you information about the DVD's size, the main title, whether it is episodic or not and other information which can help you make a decision about your ripping mode.

    1. Change your ripping mode (if desired).

You have four ways of ripping the DVD. Your default mode, as specified in the Preferences will already be selected. You can select a different mode for this rip via the dropdown box.

      • Full DVD

      • Movie + Menus only

      • Movie only

      • ISO Mode

These options are explained in more detail here.

    2. FixVTS settings.

For a discussion on what the options for FixVTS will do, see section 3.4 of this guide. In general, it is a good idea to leave all 3 boxes ticked.

    3.
    4. Select the DVD drive to rip from.

Change the suggested drive, if necessary.

    6. Optional - Make DVD jump to menu upon insertion.

Decide whether you wish for the DVD to start at the first valid menu (skipping all the junk that plays beforehand).

If you want to use this feature, setup your Player Settings in the preferences first. See section 3.1.8

    7. Now press the button to start the process.

This will start DVD Decrypter and the ripping process automatically and finally it will launch DVD Shrink for you.

      • Note: If you select a directory that is not empty - RipIt4Me will alert you about that with a pop-up window and ask you if you want to overwrite the existing files in the directory.

  • Step 2 - Save the logs

If you have enabled the setting "Save logs after rip" in the RipIt4Me Preferences window, the DVD Decrypter.log, the RipIt4Me.log and the temporary files will now be moved out of the VIDEO_TS folder to a conveniently named folder in your RipIt4Me application data folder.

You can read more about this function and how to change it in section 3.1.6 of this guide.

3. Preferences

Normally, you shouldn't need to change any of the default settings. If you don't know what to do, leave them as they are.

You can always reset the settings to default by pressing the "Defaults" button.

However, you should ensure your Player Settings are set if you wish to use the Jump to Menu feature.

3.1 General options

  • 3.1.1 Check for updates at startup

If you enable this option, you can be sure to always have the latest version of RipIt4Me installed. Every time the program is launched, this check will be performed.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

You can also use the menu option to manually check if there is a software update available.

You will see one of these pop-up windows:

    • No update available

    • Update available

If there is a new version available, download it and after you have unzipped it, simply install the .EXE file over the old version.

  • 3.1.2. Check DVD Decrypter at startup

In some rare cases, where you do have version 3.5.4.0 of DVD Decrypter installed, RipIt4Me might alert you with the following message every time you run the program.

In most instances, a fresh installation of DVD Decrypter ver 3.5.4.0 will fix this problem, but on some systems it can still show up. To turn off this message, disable the option "Check DVD Decrypter at startup".

RipIt4Me will work without problems even if you should encounter this message when you start the program as long as you have ver 3.5.4.0 of DVD Decrypter installed.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

  • 3.1.3 Empty directory before rip

If enabled, this option will automatically erase the files in the selected rip folder if it's not empty. RipIt4Me will only erase these filetypes: VOB, IFO, BUP, LOG, PSL and TXT.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

  • 3.1.4 Rip JACKET_P folder

Some DVDs have a folder called JACKET_P which contains various images of the DVD's cover. These images may be displayed on certain players when the player is stopped. Check this box if you wish to rip this (usually small) folder, which will be ripped in the parent folder of the rip (on the same level as the VIDEO_TS folder). Note that shrinking programs ignore this folder, so in order to burn it, you will need to copy it over to the final output folder.

More information on JACKET_P pictures can be found here.

    Default value is 'disabled'.

  • 3.1.5 Rip mode

This is where you set your default ripping mode. Select either Full DVD (the default), Movie + Menus, Movie Only, or ISO. These are explained in more detail in Step 1.

Irrespective of your default mode, you may always change to another mode by selecting it in Step 1.

    Default setting is 'Full DVD'.

  • 3.1.6 Save logs after rip

After processing is complete, you have the option to decide if you want to move the DVD Decrypter.log, RipIt4Me.log and the temporary files out of the VIDEO_TS folder. They will be moved to a conveniently named folder in the (hidden) folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Username>\Application Data\RipIt4Me (logs for Win95/98/Me users will be moved to C:\Windows\Application Data\RipIt4Me).

In addition, for easy identification, the name of the movie will be appended to front of each log's name.

If you want to see your saved logs, you can use the menu option "Main" -> "View saved logs".

    • Note: The Application Data folder is created by Windows, not RipIt4Me. Microsoft decided to make it hidden. However, you can change it. Open My Documents and from the menu, select Tools - Folder Options - View. Change the setting to "Show hidden files and folders" and click the "Apply to all folders" button. You can now see the Application Data folder (and other hidden folders)

These are the three options you have in the "Save logs after rip" drop-down list:

    • Never

The logs are never moved. If you want to move them, you need to select the menu option "Main" -> "Save Logs".

    • Always

The logs are always moved and you will see a window that tells you that RipIt4Me has moved them.

    • Ask me

You will have the option to decide after every run with RipIt4Me if you want to move them or not.

If you select "No", you can still move them if you select the menu option "Main" -> "Save Logs".

    Default setting is "Always".

  • 3.1.7 UI Language

From version 1.6.5, RipIt4Me allows you to adopt a language other than English for RipIt4Me's GUI. We hope some kind people will translate the language strings in the StringsUS.lang file (found in your Application Data/RipIt4Me folder), or you may choose to do this yourself.

To make a new language file yourself, rename StringsUS.lang to anything else with the "lang" extension (eg French.lang). Now, edit the "Language ID" in the strings file to a recognized ISO language code (for example, 26226 for French or 25971 for Spanish). In the strings file, do not change the \n - these are line breaks.

In order to be available, place your language file in the same folder as your RipIt4Me ini file.

As language files are posted in the forum, we will include them in the installer. Once you have a UI language file, simply use this preference to select it.

    • Note: If a string is not present in a language file, the English string will be used.

  • 3.1.8 Player Settings

These settings are necessary if you wish to use the Jump To Menu feature.

All you really need to do is select your preferred language for each item (menu, audio and subtitles). There are 10 presets for the most common languages: en (English), es (Spanish), fr (French), de (German), it (Italian), pt (Portuguese), da (Danish), sv (Swedish), ru (Russian) and ja (Japanese). Pressing one of these will set all three "preferred languages". Now, press OK to confirm.

There will be no need to change the region code from Region Free if your DVD Decrypter settings are set to remove RC and RCE protection as shown below.

3.2 Advanced options

In an ARccOS DVD, it is always necessary to remove the junk from the IFO files, but it's not always necessary to remove the bad sectors from the VOB files.

So long as the ARccOS references are removed from the IFOs, this material will show up as unreferenced in DVD Shrink, which should be sufficient to enable you to make a copy of your DVD.

If you do decide to clean the VOBs, FixVTS has to physically move sectors from one place to another on the same hard disk and that takes a little time - so it's faster not to have to remove anything from the VOBs. Of course, the "cleanest" and safest rip is to remove all the junk - this will save you space and lower your compression.

It is recommended that you use FixVTS on all your ARccOS and Ripguard protected DVDs.

You have three possibilities:

1. Both RipIt4Me "Remove protected cells" on and FixVTS "Remove unreferenced video" on

All the junk is removed both from the IFO and the VOB files. This should leave a minimum in the unreferenced material section in DVD Shrink. This is the recommended (and default) procedure.

2. RipIt4Me remove on and FixVTS remove off

All the junk is removed from the IFO files, but not from the VOB files. Blank packs are replaced by stuffing packs. These will show up as unreferenced material in DVD Shrink.

3. RipIt4Me remove off and FixVTS remove on/off

Nothing is removed from either the IFO files or the VOB files (except blank packs that are replaced by stuffing packs). These will show up in the normal place in DVD Shrink. Not recommended for ARccOS or Ripguard DVDs but will work fine on older DVDs and those which only have CSS protection.
  • 3.2.1 Remove protected cells

There are several cells in the beginning of an ARccOS protected title. These cells are not useful and serve only to skip the protected cells when playing the DVD, by means of various "cell commands". Among the skipped cells are the cells protected by read errors, which DVD Decrypter replaced by dummy sectors when you successfully ripped the DVD. During the clean up, you can process the VOBs with FixVTS to physically remove the now unreferenced ARccOS cells.

In some cases (still not very clear) the sound is desynchronized when playing the main title on a standalone. (Take care, this desynchronization is generally not perceptible when played with a software player on a PC!) By removing the unnecessary cells, the sound desynchronization should be fixed. If you are going to use AutoGK (or something like that), you need to remove the protected cells from the IFOs and VOBs because of a limitation in DGindex, which causes mis-sync in the audio/video.

It is also better to remove the unnecessary cells if you have to compress the DVD so that it will fit on a DVD-5. You will be able to use a lower compression level.

If you enable this setting, you should also enable the FixVTS setting 'Remove unreferenced and blank cells'. If you don't, there's no point in enabling this setting as the protected cells still physically will be left in the VOB files.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

  • 3.2.2 Remove tiny cells

This setting is only activated if you also enable 'Remove protected cells'.

When playing the title, some of the original cells (usually 2 or 3) are still played. Those played cells are short (less than 1 sec), but since there are cell commands attached to them, the player takes generally a couple of seconds to play each of those cells and start the movie. This means that the playback of the real title cannot begin immediately, and in extreme cases, the player may "hang".

If you enable this setting, all "tiny" cells (playback time of less than 1 second) that were originally left over from the ARccOS protection will be removed.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

  • 3.2.3 Remove useless menu cells

This setting is only activated if you also enable 'Remove protected cells'.

If this option is selected, RipIt4Me will eliminate any cell in a menu that is not played. This includes those huge blank cells, usually found in VIDEO_TS.VOB as "filler", which are usually several hundred Megabytes. It is useful to enable this option, as it will result in better compression.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

  • 3.2.4 Bypass annoying PGCs

Set this on if you want RipIt4Me to automatically kill playback of annoying junk like FBI warnings. There are several tests which RipIt4Me makes to see if a PGC is annoying and can be bypassed. FAQ 26 contains more detailed information.

    Default setting is 'disabled'.

  • 3.2.5 Remove last VTS(s) if needed

On many DVDs released from Sony that are ARccOS protected, the last Video TitleSet is a fake (you generally see about 1 hour and 36 minutes of black video in it, designed only to take up valuable space). If you enable this setting, the last fake VTS will be removed. If RipIt4Me finds other fake VTSs, it will remove them, too.

Default setting is 'enabled'. It is very useful to keep it enabled as these fake VTSs can take up hundreds of Megabytes.

  • 3.2.6 Blank bogus VTS if needed

Some recent DVDs (e.g. Final Destination 3 - Italy) have a bogus VTS not at the end (which can be removed), but in the middle of the DVD structure. In this case, in order to rip the DVD and retain structural integrity, the bogus VTS must be blanked, not removed.

Default setting is 'enabled' and it is a good idea to keep it this way. Blanking these VTS(s) can also save hundreds of Megabytes.

  • 3.2.7 BOV: Scan cells lasting less than # sec.

Button Over Video (BOV) is a feature seen more and more on recent DVDs. The purpose of BOV is basically to make a transition from your main movie to some extra that is in an another VTS. One good example is the white rabbit feature in The Matrix. Other examples are Bambi II, Stuart Little 2, Spiderman and Men in Black II.

RipIt4Me scans the title VOBSs for BOVs. To speed things up and not waste time scanning parts of the VOB that are unlikely to contain buttons, RipIt4Me only scans cells that are of small to average duration. The preferences allow you to adjust the maximum duration of cells which will be scanned for BOVs.

Default value is '300', which is a cell time of 5 minutes.

  • 3.2.8 BOV: Scan every # VOBU

A VOBU contains about a half a second of video. This setting determines which VOBUs are scanned for BOVs within the cells selected in section 3.2.7 above.

Set it to 1 to scan every VOBU in the selected cells (slowest but safest). Set it to a higher number to by-pass some VOBUs within a cell. In any event, for safety, the first and last VOBU of every cell in the VTS is scanned.

Our tests show the default setting of 30 is reasonable. At this setting, the first VOBU is scanned, then 30 are missed, then another is scanned, then another 30 are by-passed, until the cell ends, at which time the last VOBU is scanned.

Default value is '30', which is about 15 seconds of video.

3.3 1-Click Mode

  • 3.3.1 Run FixVTS after rip

FixVTS will reindex your video files and also if you have selected it to do so, remove unused space from the deleted protected cells.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

  • 3.3.2 Run DVD Shrink after rip

You have the option to automatically launch the ripped DVD in DVD Shrink.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

  • 3.3.3. Disable RCE warning

If you enable this option, you will not have to answer to this window during the rip phase. RCE (Regional Coding Enhancement) is an additional layer of protection that some studios have placed on selected DVDs to prevent them from playing on region-free or multi-region players.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

3.4 FixVTS settings

  • 3.4.1 Always run FixVTS on full DVD

If this setting is checked, FixVTS will be run on the whole DVD, irrespective of whether it needs to be or not. This is a good safety check for those who are not sure whether to run FixVTS.

If the DVD appears to be protected by ARccOS or Ripguard, FixVTS will still run on the whole DVD, regardless of this setting.

If this is unchecked and the DVD is unprotected, FixVTS will only run on:

    • the menus
    • the titlesets that have been modified (cells removed etc) and
    • the titlesets that show unreferenced material

  • Running FixVTS with this option disabled can help save a bit of time for those who are in a hurry. Otherwise, it might be safer to keep the option to process the full DVD.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

  • 3.4.2 Remove unreferenced video

If this option is checked, FixVTS can also remove unreferenced cells (i.e. cells that are in the VOB files, but never played back, according to the IFO file). It can also fix blank packs that are sometimes introduced by DVD rippers when they encounter unreadable sectors. These blank packs can either be removed, or replaced by compliant "stuffing packs" - meaning less compression/shrinking needed and better picture quality if you need to shrink the files to fit on a single layer disc when you burn the files.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

  • 3.4.3 Process in place

If this option is checked, FixVTS will not create a backup of the original files but the process will be much faster. If there should be a problem (unlikely), you can always rip the original DVD again.

    Default setting is 'enabled'.

3.5 Sound and target directory options

  • 3.5.1 Play sound at end of rip

Allows you to play a sound when RipIt4Me is done.

The default setting is 'enabled' and the default sound is the happy "success sound" from DVD Decrypter.

You can also change the default sound to whatever you want as long as it's in wav format.

If you click on the button you can hear the selected sound.

  • 3.5.2 Create target rip directory from DVD label

If enabled, RipIt4Me will automatically create and name a new folder for your rip based on the DVD label. If the DVD's label is "Seinfeld", then the rip folder will named the same.

There is also the option "Include VIDEO_TS" that will place your rip inside a VIDEO_TS folder. This option can only be selected if you enabled the first option "Create target rip directory from DVD label".

The default settings are 'enabled' for "Create target rip directory" and 'disabled' for "Include VIDEO_TS folder".

You can also specify the root drive and folder that you want the rips to be located in if you set the "Base path for target rips".

If you want to change the location for the base path for target rips, click on the and browse to the new location you want to be used by RipIt4Me (e.g. C:\DVDs).

3.6 Paths to programs

Allows you to set/change the locations of DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink and FixVTS.

If you want to change the location, click on the and browse to the new location of the program.

3.7 Copy IFOs

This specifies the method of copying the DVD's IFO files to your ripping folder. If you are not experiencing any problems with RipIt4Me, leave the setting on "Normal mode" (which is the default). However, if the program is crashing or you get the message "Video_ts.ifo declares # VTS, and I'm finding only # on the disc", try changing this setting to Microsoft API (which uses the Microsoft interface to read the DVD) or DVD Decrypter (which launches DVD Decrypter to read the IFOs in the PSL making stage).

You can read more about this in this FAQ.

4. Tools menu

The Tools menu allows you to easily access up to 24 of your favorite DVD programs which accept command line input. In addition, you can quickly open the last target rip folder used, in order to examine the files.

4.1 Setting up a new tool

To setup a new tool, simply click 'Tools' → Setup Tools. Then click 'Add tool', type in the program's name in the 'Tool name' box and either type in, or navigate to, the program's executable file in the 'Tool path' box. Click OK to complete or Add tool to add another tool.

4.2 Using the tools

Once your rip is complete, you may open the rip folder by clicking Tools → Open target folder.

You may also open the ripped DVD in your favourite editing program by clicking Tools → 'Program Name'. The DVD will open in that program (providing the program accepts command line input).
